Opportunity

Position Overview:

Independently performs a wide variety of more difficult and complex environmental sampling and data collection tasks at hazardous materials/hazardous waste sites as related to soil, groundwater, surface water, and sediment. Compiles and computes a variety of data. May analyze test data, develop or prepare descriptive charts, figures, or matrices; test specifications; monitoring reports or make recommendations regarding these items or as related to options for implementing environmental cleanup of sites. The Scientist at this level is a qualified professional, proficient in utilizing most of the relevant theories and practices of the discipline. Assignments may involve the application of computer models or the interpretation of the results of computer models and require an in-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and control strategies relevant to their technical areas. Willingness to periodically travel and manage tasks at field sites is expected.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs a variety of field and office tasks requiring the application of complex scientific principles and fundamental theories.

Prepares technical data assessments and interpretations.
Provides technical leadership and guidance to lower-level Scientists and Technicians.
Assists in preparing proposals and cost estimates.
May prepare permitting packages and/or parts of permitting packages.
May act in an advisory capacity to senior management on technical matters.
May manage tasks or small projects of small or moderate scope and complexity involving his/her technical expertise.
May prepare written technical reports and complete technical documents.
Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

4-year degree in a science curriculum related to the assigned discipline
5-10 years of related work experience in field of environmental consulting.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

Proficiency in various computer software applications typically used within the assigned discipline is required.
Also requires a demonstrated proficiency in both written and oral communication skills
Thorough understanding of Federal and State of California environmental rules and regulations as related to Hazardous Materials.
