Parsons is seeking candidates to support de engineering operations in Western Canada. Most work is being performed within the Province of Alberta and is supported from Calgary. The position requires highly motivated, self driven, technically competent individuals, with oil sands industry experience. Relevant mining operations, material transport systems, including hydro-transport, tailings processing, tailings transport, and bitumen extraction systems experience for the oil sands industry exactly meets the desired qualifications for this position. Experience with similar materials not exactly identical to oil sands but closely related with similar material characteristics can be considered.
The Mining / Mineral Process Engineer is responsible for implementing, monitoring and facilitating standard practices as they relate to materials management and mineral processing within the oil sands industry.
Required KNOWLEDGE, qualifications, skills, and experiences
Excellent communication skills (Verbal, oral and written)
Thorough and working knowledge of:
· Oil sands mining, extraction, hydro-transport and tailings processes.
· Process engineering as it relates to the oil sands industry.
· How to coordinate and facilitate system design particularly during the FEED Phase of engineering.
· How to evaluate competing technologies for mining, tailings processing, and bitumen extraction systems and lead groups that are defining process design criteria, and project direction.
· The Physical properties of oil sands ore and how they are affected by the addition of chemicals for ph adjustment, how viscosity of material is affected by temperature, impacts of clay materials, wettability, etc.
· Oil sands industry materials management & mineral processing principles, theories, concepts and practices
· Oil sands tailings processes and the associated characteristics such as ore grade, PSD, fines, D50, etc. and the associated impact on overall process (performance in PSC, Flotation, pipelines, etc.)
· Slurry transport systems and processes.
· Alberta codes, certifications (ABSA), standards (API, AISC and AWS), and trade practices are a plus
Qualifications
BS or MS degree in Engineering (Preferably Mining, Mechanical, Chemical, or Petroleum)
The proven ability to build team consensus, successfully lead within a matrix organization, motivate others and to consistently meet objectives.
10+ years of materials management and or mineral processing experience in the oil sands industry, at least 5 of which should include managing or supervising others.
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs, Lotus Notes, etc.
