JOB TITLE: Engineer, Senior(Highway Design Engineer)
PROJECT OERVIEW:
Provide project design civil engineering services for various highway improvement projects in southern California out of the Irvine CA office. The services include preparation of Project Study Reports (PSRs); Project Reports (PRs); Geometric Approval Drawings (GADs); and Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E). The work will be performed in southern California.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Completes a wide variety of transportation engineering assignments, applying engineering techniques and analyses to the preparation of conceptual, preliminary and final roadway and interchange designs. The engineer at this level is a fully qualified professional, proficient in the utilization of transportation engineering theory and practice. Should be able to lead and complete CAE (computer aided engineering)/CAD (computer aided design) applications, with Microstation proficiency required and AutoCAD desirable. This position is intended to be a 'stepping stone' for further career advancement with opportunities for additional training commensurate with candidate's desire for professional growth.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES::
Performs complex transportation tasks, particularly highway geometrics for roadways and interchanges
Prepares engineering computations, material quantity take-offs, estimates, surveys, and designs
Completes a variety of assignments such as drawings, specifications, and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes. Frequently interfaces with transportation planning, environmental and other engineering disciplines for the successful preparation of plans, specifications and estimates of projects
Knowledgeable of Caltrans design requirements, specifications and project development processes for highway and roadway projects
Experience with the preparation of Project Study Reports (PSR's), Project Reports (PR's) and Project Development Studies (PDS's) and accompanying environmental documents that may be associated with the various transportation planning and engineering tasks
May be assigned to a project or organizational team, or as a lead engineer for a specific discipline on a small to intermediate-size project.
Proficient with Microsoft Office software, e.g. Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, and Project and/or other scheduling and project management tools and applications
Provides technical guidance to CAD Designers/Drafters, Designers and lower level engineers working on a variety of transportation projects.
Strong communications skills, both verbal and written, are desirable
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
4-year degree in Engineering (or related field) and 8-10 years of related work experience. Professional California Civil Engineer registration is required.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
Proficiency in utilizing roadway design packages such as Inroads/Select CAD and/or Geopak and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering is required. Proficiency with MS Office suite and MS Project and/or other scheduling and project management tools and applications required preferred.
