PRINCIPAL ARCHITECT
THIS IS A CASUAL ON-CALL TYPE POSITION
POSITION OVERVIEW :
The incumbent at this level determines methods and solutions for complex architectural assignments and selects the most efficient and economical manner in meeting the objectives. Applies advanced architectural techniques and concepts. This level of Architect is a fully-qualified professional, proficient in the development of the most unique and creative architectural solutions. May serve as a technical consultant to management or the client.
Willingness to travel including extended temporarily displaced employee (TDY) assignments is expected, anticipated travel (100%).
Initial focus will be on the FEMA Public Assistance Technical Assistance Contract (PA TAC) and will include assessments/inspections of public facilities/infrastructure damaged during natural disasters.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :
Support FEMA related to assessments/inspections of damaged public property associated with natural disasters. Temporary deployments can last 6 months or longer
Performs a variety of assignments such as conducting architectural studies, developing design concepts and design criteria, and preparing related reports.
Coordinates work with engineering and construction units at project site. Reviews, approves, and issues detailed design and construction drawings and specifications prepared by others.
Provides technical consultations for interdisciplinary analytical studies and analyses.
Prepares material and equipment specifications and purchase requisitions; reviews supplier data; witnesses shop tests, assists with assessing supplier manufacturing capabilities. Selects materials and writes construction specifications.
Reviews supplier drawings and samples, and performs technical bid analyses.
Reviews CAD drawings, renderings, layouts, study models, construction documents, and color boards prepared by Architectural Designers. Ensures compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
Provides the seal and signature of the professional architect when required by statute or contract.
May function as a lead member of a project team. Provides technical guidance to lower-level Architects and Architectural Designer/Drafters working on the same project, and may provide input regarding their performance.
Prepares staffing estimates and execution plans.
Keeps abreast of current technologies via technical subscriptions and attendance at conferences.
Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in Architecture (or equivalent) is required plus 10 years of experience, or a minimum of 15 years of experience without a professional registration.
Experience working with FEMA associated with PA TAC.
Emergency response experience.
Facility/assets assessment/inspection experience.
Estimating experience.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
Requires proficiency in the application of architectural design standards, practices, techniques, and concepts. Proficiency in CAD and other PC software packages typically associated with architectural design is also required, as well as the ability to perform as a job leader and make presentations to clients and others.
